Britain ready to assist Sri Lanka in establishing democracy

Britain says it is always ready to assist Sri Lanka to establish democracy in the country.

Head of the South Asia Department at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London, Fergus Auld OBE said that the slow change in the Northern Province would strengthen confidence in Sri Lanka’s democracy.

He expressed these views at a meeting with the Governor of the Northern Province Dr. Suren Raghavan at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.

During the meeting, the Governor briefed Fergus Auld on the activities that are being carried out by him as the Governor of the Northern Province in order to bring the Northern Province on the path of development.

He also called for the coordination and cooperation of the British Government to take the Northern Province further on the path of development.

Fergus said he welcomed the change in the development and structure of the Northern Province over the past months adding that the slow change in the Northern Province would strengthen the confidence in Sri Lanka’s democracy.

At the same time, he added that Britain is always ready to assist Sri Lanka in establishing democracy as a country that always relies on democracy.
