Sri Lanka keen to resume ferry service with India

Sri Lanka is keen to resume the ferry service with India, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Sudarshana Gunawardana, who is attached to the Prime Minister’s Office told the Colombo Gazette that the matter had been noted at a meeting between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and a visiting Indian delegation.

Tamil Nadu politician Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, daughter of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunanidhi, met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for talks in Colombo yesterday.

At the meeting the Prime Minister had noted the keen interest of the government to resume the ferry service.

The ferry service resumed in 2011 linking Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu and Colombo, but it was suspended due to less traffic.
