Cambodia has joined hands with Sri Lanka in the economic, trade and social fields as well as in all matters concerning the revival of Buddhism, King of Cambodia Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boronmeath Norodom Sihamoni said.
The Cambodian King said this when he met President Maithripala Sirisena at the Royal Palace for discussions yesterday morning.
President Maithripala Sirisena is on a four day state visit to Cambodia on the invitation of the Cambodian government. President Sirisena was warmly received by King Norodom Sihamoni at the Royal Place with a colourful welcome ceremony. King Sihamoni who recalled the longstanding mutual relations between the two countries dating back to several centuries expressed his gratitude to President Sirisena for undertaking a state visit to Cambodia at his invitation.
The King who appreciated the progress achieved by Sri Lanka in the economic, trade, social and religious fields under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena thanked the Sri Lankan government for the assistance given to Cambodia in the Education field by offering educational scholarships to Cambodian members of the Sangha.
During the meeting the two leaders discussed at length measures to take forward the mutual relations in Education, Tourism, industrial and other through new avenues which would offer dividends to both countries.
President Maithripala Sirisena profusely thanked the Cambodian King for extending an invitation to him for a state visit to Cambodia marking a special milestone in the longstanding mutual relations between Sri Lanka and Cambodia. President Sirisena said he is doubly happy for being able undertake this tour at a time when Sri Lanka had initiated a special programme of work for the revival of Buddhism.
A press release by the President’s Media Division said President Maithripala Sirisena also placed floral tributes at Cambodia’s Independence Memorial in Phnom Penh, built in memory of Cambodias father of the nation late king Norodom Sihanouk, who is the father of the present Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni.
