US Security Alert only a routine one - Defence Secretary

The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka had informed that their recent security alert to American citizens for the upcoming holidays is a common procedure and not only for Sri Lanka, Defence Secretary Gen.Santha Kottegoda confirmed.

He was referring to the Security Alert that had been issued by the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka to their citizens reminding the current Level 2 Travel Advisory for the upcoming holidays on August 2.

The Defence Secretary stated this addressing a meeting to review security during the upcoming Esala Perahera festival held at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic premise in Kandy yesterday (4).

He emphasized that the security forces have taken every possible action to maximize security in the country in the aftermath of the attack. Therefore, Kottegoda said the foreign tourists should not be afraid to visit Sri Lanka and pointed out that even the Bangladesh Cricket team made a tour in the country recently.

He also pointed out that issuance of such security alerts or Travel Advisories could cause to hinder the number of the tourists arriving in the country subsequent to the series of attacks of April 21.
