EU  supports Sri Lanka to counter brutal extremism

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini has stressed solidarity with Sri Lanka following the Easter Sunday attacks.

The EU High Representative held bilateral talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana on the sidelines of the 26th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) which takes place during the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (52nd AMM), Post Ministerial Conferences (PMCs), and Related Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.

She has underlined the EU’s readiness to support Sri Lanka in the face of this challenge to help prevent and counter violent extremism and support improvements in coordinating the country’s counterterrorism efforts.

Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, chaired the 26th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) with the participation of 27 countries IN CLUDING Sri Lanka .

The Meeting discussed the promotion of sustainable security in the region as well as human security, and exchanged views on regional and international issues, including trade tensions, the situation in the South China Sea and the Korean Peninsula.
