India International Textiles Expo to conclude today

The third edition of India International Textiles Expo (IITExpo) Colombo 2019, organized by Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL), Mumbai India will conclude today (31) at Hotel Galadari, Colombo yesterday.

The three day event saw the participation of 25 selected exhibitors from various textile clusters of India viz., Tamil Nadu (Erode, Salem, Coimbatore), Ichalkaranji, Solapur, (Maharashtra), Ahmedabad, Surat (Gujarat), will be displaying varieties of Apparel fabrics (woven, knitted and non- woven), Made-ups, Home Textiles, Traditional items etc., in various blends, texture, colour designs etc, suitable for apparel, industrial and technical application.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Anoma Gamage (M.P.) Deputy Minister of Petroleum Resource Development, Sharad Amalean, Chairman, Joint Apparel Association Forum Sri Lanka (JAAFSL), Suja K. Menon, Counsellor (Economic and Commercial), High Commission of India to Sri Lanka, Rehan Lakhany, Chairman, Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association and Indira Malwatte, Chairperson and Chief Executive, Sri Lanka Export Development Board.

Sri Lanka is one of India’s largest trading partners in SAARC. India in turn is one of the Sri Lanka’s leading trade partners globally. Fabrics are among the major item exported from India to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is among the top 10 countries for export of cotton fabrics from India.

Export of major textile commodities from India to Sri Lanka stood over 600 Mn USD.

This is the 3rd Edition of exhibition cum Buyer Seller Meet (BSM) organized by PDEXCIL in Colombo, Sri Lanka. “Earlier to this, two major events had been organized in 2018 and 2013. The previous edition of IITExpo Colombo attracted over 400 buyers from Sri Lanka and over 40 Indian exhibitors who displayed variety of textile products from India,” an official from PDEXCIL said.

“The event was useful and is an ideal platform for importers/dealers/wholesalers of various textiles, sourcing Agencies, retailers/buying houses, institutional buyers, yarn traders and garment manufacturers of Sri Lanka to directly interact with exhibitors and to choose their requirements of various varieties, in fiber composition, weave, shades, grey etc.”

Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL), having its Head office at Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Regional Office at Erode (Tamil Nadu) is set up by Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, for the promotion of overall growth of powerloom sector in India and export of its products by its various activities such as buyer seller meet cum exhibitions in India and abroad, seminar and workshops for the benefits of SME sector, skill development etc., with the support of Govt. of India.
