Education should oppose extremism - UNESCO chief

"The massacres in Sri Lanka and New Zealand demand that we become more united, deepen dialogue and fight against extremism," says the UNESCO chief Audrey Azoulay said.

"This is the mission of UNESCO and all of its sectors mainly education, science, culture and information," she said addressing yesterday's (15) opening ceremony of the Conference on the Dialogue of Asian Civilizations (CDAC).

Ms. Azoulay also emphasized the importance of education saying "without education, there will be no real dialogue."

"The education we are dedicated to develop, should be the education that will facilitate human dignity and dialogue, oppose extremism and be inclusive," she added.
