With the new government coming into power, the former Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunge had been asked to leave his post and he had handed in his resignation and is planning on retiring from state sector service, it is reported.
Meanwhile, a group of foreign graduates are expected to be added onto the MOF pool.
Dr. Samaratunge who is a Sri Lanka Administrative Service A grade officer is considered as a specialist in economics and state finance policies.
Having obtained his first post graduate degree from the Indraprastha Institute of Public Administration in Delhi, then went on to obtain his MBA in Business Management at the Sri Jayawardenapura University and thereafter he obtained his MSc at the Wisconsin University in the US.
He later obtained his doctorate in Economics from the La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia
Meanwhile, Senior Deputy Treasury Secretary A.R. Deshapriya had also resigned from state service as he had been demoted and appointed as a ministry secretary, despite having two more years prior to his retirement.
Deshapriya had obtained his degree in State Management at the Sri Jayawardenapura University and later obtained his Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Solvienia – Lublijana University.
Further, the Deputy Treasury Secretary A.M.P.M.B. Atapattu has been asked to select another ministry immediately by the new Finance Ministry Secretary S.R. Attygalle.
It was Deshapriya and Atapattu who had been in charge of the Gamperaliya and Enterprise Sri Lanka programmes.
These programmes have now been stopped.
While revengeful politics still continues under the new administration, several other officers have also been advised to move to other ministries from the Finance Ministry.
These officers are;

Jayasuriya – Director General, Department of Trade and Investment Policy
Thilaka Jayasundara – Director General, Public Enterprises Department
Noor Rizna – Director General, Department of State Finance Development
Thamara Perera – Director General, Administrative Services Department
Sanjaya Mudalige – Director General, Department of National Planning
Ali Hasan – Director, Finance Ministry, Communication Division
