President Maithripala Sirisena has left for Japan on a three-day official visit, his final state tour as President, today (Oct 21).
The President accompanied by a 21-member delegation including his family members has left from the Bandaranaike International Airport on board Thai Airways flight TG 308 at 1:10 am Monday.
President Sirisena will attend the coronation of the Emperor of Japan, Naruhito in Tokyo from October 22-23 at the invitation of Japanese Government
His term in office will end after a new President is elected following the November 16 presidential election.
He will take part in the coronation ceremony of the Japanese Emperor Naruhitho which will take place on October 22nd.
The coronation ceremony will begin with the Emperor and the Empress Masako clad in royal clothes arriving at the main hall of the Imperial Palace.The emperor will be coronated as the 126th emperor of Japan.
The invitees include Britain’s Prince Charles, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad Bin Salman and many other state leaders.
The coronation ceremony which is due to take place for 30 minutes will end with a statement made by Emperor Naruhitho following which Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is due to make a congratulatory speech.
The salute parade that was due to take place following the coronation ceremony has been postponed to November 10th due to the recent Hagibis typhoon which battered Japan.
