The one-day service to issue National Identification Cards (NICs) will remain suspended, the Department of Registration of Persons said yesterday
The Department of Registration of Persons said that the service which was suspended in March will remain suspended as the coronavirus threat is not fully eliminated.
The one-day service would result in a large number of people gathering at the Department and as a result it has been decided to suspend the service further.
However, steps have been taken to issue NIC cards through Divisional Secretariats for examinations, interviews, driving licenses and foreign passports.
NIC cards required for such reasons will be dispatched by registered post as an urgent matter. (Colombo Gazette)
