DNA report reaffirms identity of two bombers

The DNA report of the tests conducted on the St. Anthony’s Church, Kochchikade suicide bomber Alaudin Mohamed Muwath and the bomber at St. Sebastians Church, Katuwapitiya, Katana Achchi Mohammadu Mohammadu Hasthun has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department.

Government Analyst Ariyananda Welianga speaking to media said the DNA reports reaffirms the identity of the two bombers.

The Government Analyst said the DNA obtained from the remains of the bombers matched the DNA samples obtained from their relatives.

The Government Analyst noted that the DNA test reports of the other seven suicide bombers who carried out the suicide attacks on Easter Sunday will also be completed in the near future.

Meanwhile Court on Friday permitted officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department to obtain a blood sample from the 4 year-old daughter of Shangri-La bomber Zaharan Hashim, in order to carry-out a DNA test to determine his identity.

The order was issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake after considering the submissions made in Court pertaining to explosions reported at Shangri-La hotel on Easter Sunday.

Meanwhile the Magistrate also ordered the CID to formulate a forensic report on the items found at several residences occupied by Zaharan Hashim.
