United National Front Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa says former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has, for the first time, admitted that the war was won by then Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.
Speaking at an election rally today Premadasa said that over the past 10 years the Rajapaksas took credit for the defeat of the LTTE.
However he said that at a media briefing yesterday Gotabaya Rajapaksa had admitted that it was Fonseka who led the Army to victory.
“When a question was asked about incidents related to the war my opponent quickly passed the ball to Sarath Fonseka,” Premadasa said.
Speaking at an election rally in Dodangaslanda today, Premadasa said that the former Government had jailed Fonseka despite the role he played to end the war.
Premadasa said that Fonseka was mistreated because he contested the 2010 Presidential election against Mahinda Rajapaksa. (Colombo Gazette)
