Discussions are currently underway to nominate JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake as the Presidential candidate from the JVP and coalition formed with the National Intellectuals Organisation.
Many of the members of the intellectuals organisation at decision making capacity have said that if their agenda is to be successfully taken to the people, a JVP politburo member should be nominated for presidential candidacy and the election campaign should be handled by the JVP politburo.
It is reported that during many of the JVP politburo meetings Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s name had been proposed by the members including its Secretary Tilvyn Silva.
It has been planned to establish a front named the ‘Jathika Janabala peramuna’ and contest the election under it.
It has been decided to name the presidential candidate at the Galle Face on August 18th and the JVP plans on an attendance of around 100,000 at this event, said JVP member K.D. Lalkantha.
It has been planned at a party internal meeting in Yatinuwara to decide on the registration, party logo and the party leader at a later date.
