Speaker of the House Karu Jayasuriya said that it is timely to hold the presidential election as scheduled rather than rush a provincial council election.
He said that this matter was discussed at the recent party leaders meeting.
It is reported that when the Prime Minister, Opposition Leader and the Speaker had met with the Election Commissioner last week, they had all felt that the Presidential election should be held as scheduled and not the provincial council election.
