A Gazette Extraordinary was issued on Monday night (20) declaring that the next General Election of Sri Lanka will be held on June 20 this year.
Holding of elections amid the the highly contagious Covid-19 pandemic has raised serious concerns on social media for weeks.
However, speaking during a discussion aired via his Facebook page with former President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, president Gotabaya Rajapaksa insisted that he has no intention of reconvening the old Parliament.
He also defended the decision to relax curfew regulations, saying that continuing with the curfew further will have a serious impact on the local economy.
