Curfew relaxed in some areas from tomorrow

The Government has decided to lift the ongoing islandwide curfew imposed for a month to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, in many districts and Police divisions from Monday, announced the President’s Media Division in a release last night.

However, the curfew will continue until further notice in Covid-19 high risk areas while in other areas it will be lifted during daytime.

Public and private transport will also resume operations from Monday but the general public has been instructed to go out only for essential work and stay indoors until the threat posed by the global pandemic is completely eliminated.

”The lifting of curfew was considered to ease the hardships faced by the people and to resume economic activities, but this in no way indicates that the country has completely got over the crisis,” the release from the President’s office emphasized. Public and private sector offices are permitted to re-open but with only the essential staff, while employers have been advised to strictly adhere to precautions to prevent a contraction among the staff.

Offices will begin at 10 am but employees should be allowed to leave in time to reach home before curfew is re-imposed at 8pm.
