Govt vegetable purchase programme succeessful

Following the decision by health authorities to close Economic Centers around the country in order to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Government has started purchasing vegetables and fish from the affected parties.

The Government has purchased 350,000 kg of vegetable from the farmers who supply to the Nuwara Eliya Economic Centre over the New Year period. Thirty five lorries will be deployed to distribute this produce to the following local government authority areas: Colombo Municipality, Kotikawatta-Mulleriyawa UC, Kaduwela, Moratuwa, Kesbewa, Boralesgamuwa, Biyagama, Kalutara, Walallawita, Dodangoda, Matara, Rambewa, Payagala, Gampola, Akuressa, Malimboda, Anurdhapura, Medawachchiya, Kahatagasdigiliya, and Central and Eastern Nuwaragam.

Additionally, the Government has purchased 400,000 kg of vegetables from farmers who supply to the Dambulla Economic Centre. Fifty lorries will be deployed to distribute this produce to Laggala, Naula, Pallegama and Galewela areas.
