Minister of Higher Education, Bandula Gunawardena states that a university will be opened for students in the plantation areas of Hatton and Kotagala.
Minister Gunawardena made this statement while taking part in an inspection tour yesterday (09) to find suitable land to establish a university in the area.
This request has been made by Arumugam Thondaman.
The Minister added that steps will be taken to provide more facilities for higher education institutes such as the Sri Pada National College of Education and the Thondaman vocational training center in Hatton.
The Government expects to allocate funds for this initiative after the Cabinet approval is obtained, the minister added.
