Interim government offers immediate relief for cash strapped SMEs

The new interim government will be offering immediate relief to small and medium scale entrepreneurs who face difficulties in repaying their loans taken from bank and financial institutions, newly appointed State Minister for Development banks and loan schemes Shehan Semasinghe state minister said.

The initial discussion was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapa ksa with the state and private banks to find solutions to these problems which have aggravated to the level of losing their land or property placed by them as collateral.

The Minister pointed out that concessions will be given within the next week when relevant reports received from the respective banks.

A special discussion was held with the heads of the Central Bank, Heads of State and Private Banks under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, he disclosed.

The purpose was to be analyzed the economic condition of these banks in order to create future investment opportunities. Accordingly, they will issue a report in the next week, he said.

He noted that banks have been requested for a report on what they can do to make free on pressure from small and medium scale entrepreneurs to large scale entrepreneurs relating to their loan repayment obligations.

Some businessmen have been blacklisted by the Credit Information Bureau. Businessmen are on risk of losing their property. As soon as such reports are received within a week, the government will grant concessions for these businessmen, he added.
