The same day Identity card service will be available at a new Southern Provincial Office of the Department for Registration of Persons opens in Galle on Friday (6 Sept).
Prime Minister Rani Wickremesinghe will be the chief guest, the Department said in a press release.
The Department is setting up offices at the provincial level to provide effective and productive services to the general public and also to expand the plan of de-centralising the department services.
Similarly, Wayamba province office in Kurunegala, Eastern office in Batticaloa and Northern office in Vavuniya were established to provide the same services to people at a provincial level.
The Department is also planning on launching the ‘Smart Identity Card’ by receiving photographs of individuals to the department database through all-island photo studios registered under the department to take photos according to the methods and standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation
