Although Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabhaya Rajapaksa are seeking the mandate of the people to bring them into power on the promise of establishing national security, the only security they ensured during their tenure was that of their family and friends and not the country, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in Jaffna yesterday.
MP Nadaraja Raviraj was killed in the High Security Zone but the Rajapaksas failed to bring the perpetrators before the law, he said.
The Prime Minister made these remarks addressing the gathering at the opening of the Thirunelveli Agricultural Centre yesterday. “It is ironic that the same people who murdered their opponents and tortured and assaulted them are now talking about ensuring security in the country.”
Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs and Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister P.Harrison said he was personally very happy that after 60 years a research institution is being established in Jaffna. He also noted that the estimation process to compensate those whose crops had been damaged in 2018 is currently underway.
Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development State Minister Dillip Wedarachchi, State Education Minister Wijayakala Maheshwaran, TNA MPs Mavai Senadhirajah, M.A. Sumanthiran, Dharmalingham Sidharthan, Sri Sarawanabhavan and several government officials participated in the ceremony.
