Everyone should come together for better country – President

Everyone should come together to create a better country and a virtuous future generation, President Maithripala Sirisena said.

The President was addressing a gathering of youth after opening the “SMART SRI LANKA” Vocational Training Institute in Katugastota yesterday

The institute was set up to empower the youth with skills and talents to face future challenges.

Many steps were taken during the last four years to build a justifiable society for the children, said the President. Every child is treated equally and the utmost will be done for their benefit, the President said.

The President said the SMART SRI LANKA, being a non-political programme, is conducting various programmes to uplift the youth.

Expressing his views on the harsh ragging system, the President said those who rag others should not forget that victims are not different from their brothers and sisters.

The President handed over the letters vesting the responsibilities of the ‘Smart Sri Lanka’ Project in the Kandy district.

Governors Sarath Ekanayake, Rajitha Keerthi Thennakoon, State Minister Buddhika Pathirana, former MP Shantha Bandara, Kandy District Secretary D.M.N.G Karunarathna, Ravi Jayawardana Chairman of Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka, the Director General of the Smart Sri Lanka Project Eric Prasanna and several others participated. President Sirisena also vested the 100-bed ward complex at the Provincial Ayurvedic Hospital in Pallekele with the public.

The ward complex was built under the Department of Ayurveda, Central Province to provide more facilities for the people who seek treatment there.

The President made an observational tour there and also registered the first patient to the ward.

Two lorries worth Rs. 17 million were donated to the hospital to use for its community services.

Health Ministry Secretary Wasantha Perera and the Director of the Provincial Ayurvedic Hospital Specialist Doctor Sunethra Dias and others participated.
