JVP MP Vijitha Herath today said if the no-confidence motion against the government was won in parliament, it will not lead to an election but would only provide an opportunity to form a new government.
He said they brought in the no-confidence motion against the government because of the mounting pressure of the people, on the government.
“There will be no election even if the no-confidence motion against the government is won in Parliament. It will only allow for a new government to be formed in the House. There is a mounting pressure on the government throughout the country and this motion is a reflection of that protest," he said.
Mr. Herath said a motion can be presented in the House to dissolve parliament, if required, and added that they would consider this if the need arises.
