Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa is reported to have held a telephone conversation with Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader and Minister Rauff Hakeem, informed sources said.
According to sources, Mr. Hakeem exchanged pleasantries with Mr. Rajapaksa and wished him good luck. Further information was not available.
SLMC is presently an ally of the UNP. At the last three presidential elections, the SLMC, as the largest Muslim party of Sri Lanka, supported the candidates fielded by the UNP-led alliances.
Hakeem is said to be disappointed with the Sajith faction's clash over the upcoming presidential candidacy within the UNP.
