President Maithripala Sirisena and Leader of Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa had met last night for talks.
The talks had reportedly focused on the possibility of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) working together at future elections.
The SLFP and the SLPP had met last morning for talks and both sides said there was progress and that the party leaders will meet for further discussions.
The SLFP and SLPP have had several rounds of discussions in an attempt to reach a consensus to work together at future elections.
However both sides have failed to agree on a Presidential candidate to contest the next election if they decide to work together.
The SLPP has already picked former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa as their Presidential candidate. (Colombo Gazette)
