Next round of SLFP–SLPP talks tomorrow - Amaraweera

The UPFA is scheduled to hold discussions with the SLPP (Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna) on Tuesday (27) over the possibility of forming an alliance to contest the forthcoming Presidential Election, UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera and SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara told journalists in Hettipola yesterday.

Amaraweera said the UPFA has not reached a final decision about an alliance with the SLPP for the Presidential polls.

In the next few days, President Maithripala Sirisena and Gotabaya Rajapaksa are scheduled to have a meeting and thereafter, the final decision about forming an alliance will be reached, he said.

Amaraweera said if these bilateral talks proved futile, a competent candidate from the SLFP would be put forward as the party’s Presidential candidate.
