Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa is expected to seek a meeting with President this week, SLFP and SLPP sources confirmed to the Sunday Observer yesterday.
This crucial meeting between them will be used to discuss key political matters, sources revealed. The upcoming Presidential election and strengthening bilateral talks between the SLFP and SLPP in forming a coalition will be key topics at the meeting.
President Maithripala Sirisena and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa also had a closed door discussion at the President’s official residence in Colombo, last week, at which the ongoing discussion of the political coalition between SLFP-SLPP had been the key topic.
It was also reported that Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Maithripala Sirisena had had several lengthy phone conversations some weeks ago-during Rajapaksa’s short stay at Singapore, while undergoing treatment after his surgery.
