UNP to reach a consensus on Presidential candidacy

Three political parities the UNP, SLFP and PPP are playing hide and seek in putting forward their presidential candidate.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National organiser Basil Rajapaksa says he can assure the public that former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa will respect democracy and be a terminator.
He said that the Presidential candidate of the SLPP will be declared on Sunday.
He noted that Gotabaya Rajapaksa is among a few others who meet the expectations of the SLPP and the public to be their Presidential candidate.
Whilst the other political parties still have no one in sight to contest the presidential polls, the UNP has three too many.
And its working committee is still to decide which equals to field. The choice has been up on grabs with Ranil, Karu or Sajith in the line up .
Prime Minister Ranil as leader of the UNP can be considered as the favourite to make to the upfront as the UNP runner. He has all the qualifications and the experience.
He has been the longest standing leader of the party with a record 24 years in the saddle.
However it has been veiled that RANIL and Sajith have struck a compromise settlement into the bubbling issue following consultations and consensus.
